Title: Hello, compatriots!
Post by: Disreputable_Stave on November 25, 2010, 09:47:15 PM
I've been a fan of steampunk for several months now. A girl at a bookstore reccomended I pick up The Court of the Air, and right now I'm reading Rise of the Iron Moon. Stephen Hunt's got the gift. Cherie Priest's Boneshaker is also pretty good IMO.

I'm an aspiring writer, and I've got some sci-fi stories at http://www.authorsden.com/members/subPage.asp?pageReq=workscp_stories.

Hi Disreputable_Stave,

Welcome to the forums :-)

I think you'll find that once you get the taste for steampunk it's pretty hard to get rid of it! You might like to try The Affinity Bridge by George Mann (the first in a series featuring Newbury and Hobbes), or The Difference Engine by William Gibson if you're hunting for more steampunk fun.

hope to see your posts around here in the future,

Vinx

Hello there, the Disreputable Stave

Well, my books are prob. considered more fantasy with a Victorian level culture, rather than true steampunk (in the League of Ex. Gentlemen-stylee), by those of a stovepipe hat-wearing tendencies...

Nice to see you here, anyhow!

The stories I'm currently writing are set during the French Revolution. Since it's set earlier than most steampunk I've read, only two airships have been built in France--and even those two were so prohibitively expensive they plunged the country into crippling debt, leading to the Revolution. I've taken historical figures and events and "tweaked" them to fit my narrative. I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how many Frenchmen thought up technology that finds its way into steampunk.

Gather 'round, friends! Taking a cue from Mr. Hunt (and other authors), I've decided to offer The Game Called Revolution for free for a limited time. From now until 09/13, you can download the novel in its entirety by going to [no longer available].

All right, I took the feedback I received and have published the 2nd edition. The story itself didn't change; mostly it was my incorrect uses of the French language that got altered. Also, the Kindle and paperback versions have been organized into one page (http://www.amazon.com/Game-Called-Revolution-1/dp/145387934X/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1346278554&sr=1-4)--they were formerly separate. Finally, I lowered the paperback version price slightly to $11.25.

The 1st edition is still available to download for free until 09/13.

P.S. Someone just posted a very positive review on Amazon (wasn't me, promise).

I'm looking for test readers for my new novel. The work in question is The Revolution Beyond Time. It is the third book in the Infini Calendar series.

The year is 1889 (Infini Calendar). Twelve-year-old Nelly Flowers is accompanying her parents on a journey to Wichita with the ultimate goal of staking a claim in the Oklahoma Land Run. However, when their airship is attacked by pirates--with Nelly the apparent target--she'll have to find the courage she isn't sure she has and entrust her life to mysterious new friends in order to save everyone. The dreaded Gnostagar have returned, and for the first time humans must journey to their world. Said humans are (somewhat) up to the task, but can a child, an Austrian cowgirl, a rebel Gnostagar and an anti-social Lincoln-hater really stop these shape-shifting monsters?

You can download the rough draft from http://depositfiles.com/files/he4nzvn9n. I would appreciate any feedback.

My new novel God School is now available for pre-order on Kindle. Reserve your copy today!

18-year-old Ev Bannen was just hoping to get admitted to college. He never expected to be recruited to a school for gods, where he’ll be spending his days building up his strength, learning to answer prayers and getting an education in religion alongside aspiring god of money Jaysin Marx, the lovely but troubled Maya Brünhart and Asperger’s-afflicted Daryn Anders. But the organization of evil gods, Zero Grade, has plans to unleash hell on earth, and they require the blood of potential gods to do it. What’s more, someone close to Ev is not who they claim to be, and their betrayal may doom mankind forever. Ev steps up to save the day, but does he even stand a chance in hell of defeating a legendary deity?
