Discuss books / Reviews
« on: December 06, 2012, 11:58:32 PM »
I've done a few reviews on my blog recently and thought I'd come over and share them. Mainly because I want people to go and read The Wizard That Wasn't. It's a great read (and it's free from smashwords, I think) and I want Ben to keep writing.

So, here's the links.

Discuss books / The Whole Series?
« on: February 22, 2012, 06:43:31 AM »
Hey everyone,

Here's a question for you...

Do you like to wait for a whole series to come out before you start reading? Or are you willing to wait years between volumes?

I generally like to know they are all available, even if I don't have them on my shelf. Though this doesn't always happen. I've started ready A Song of Ice and Fire but will now wait for the series to be complete. I gave up on Wheel of Time at number 5 and haven't gotten back to it yet (though I intend to).

Discuss books / Cross over
« on: February 08, 2012, 08:07:20 PM »
What do people think of cross over novels?

I love both reading and writing them, I think mainly because I like both genres and don't like to have to chose which I'll read next. Of course, I think some cross over stuff is about as terrible as it's possible to be because it can come across as forced or totally ridiculous.

Discuss books / Amazon is ripping me off
« on: January 04, 2012, 06:37:05 AM »
I've been giving away my ebook for free from my website but today I discovered that it's listed on Amazon UK for 1.47 pounds (not sure if they've sold any).

I've sent them an email asking WTF is going on but am still waiting for a reply. Not only is it doubtful I'd be seeing any money from this but someone has obviously spent abut 2 minutes converting  to mobi and it looks like complete crap. It makes me look like a useless thrid rate self publisher who doesn't care about quality. Why would anyone want to buy it anyway?

Argh. Just a little bit annoyed right now.

Discuss books / Web Comic
« on: November 21, 2011, 04:06:29 AM »
It isn't a novel, I know, but I just spent 3 days reading 500 episodes of a fantasy web comic that has one of my favourite fantasy characters ever. How can you not like an evil mage named Richard? He eats babies, is hacked to pieces on pretty much every second page, is the mayor of a little town up the coast and doesn't quite understand how other people don't love death and pain as much as he does.

Starfarer's Tavern / 3d Starship CAD Model
« on: July 03, 2011, 02:56:44 AM »
Hey everyone

I spent a couple of years (on and off) drawing a 3d model of a starship (from my free novel) in Google SketchUp. It includes all 10 levels of the ship's interior.

It up on the net for people to look at-- obviously you need SketchUp to view it (but it's a pretty cool program and it's free).

There's also a PDF available which isn't nearly as cool.

There probably won't be a lot of people interested in seeing it, but it took so long to do that I was hoping someone else would look. It can be downloaded from http://www.scottjrobinson.com/hakahei.html

Saying hello / Greetings
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:58:59 PM »
Hi

I'm a reader and writer and watcher of fantasy and sci/fi. KJ Parker and Stephen Erikson and Dave Duncan probably at the top of the list but anything will do.

I have a free book (with an option to donate if you like it) available from www.scottjrobinson.com

Thanks

Scott
