London: 19th August, 2014 – Following a sold out show and rave reviews, an extra 2 dates for Secret Cinema presents Back to the Future have been added to the production. Tickets for the Bank Holiday Monday 25th August and Wednesday 27th August will be available from Wednesday, 20th August 1pm on

Secret Cinema Presents Back To The Future has reinstated the film in the Top 10 Box Office for the first time since its initial theatrical release in 1985. The film’s writer and producer Bob Gale paid homage to the show’s success by visiting London’s Hill Valley on multiple occasions and hailing the production as “one of the finest BTTF experiences in history”.

In a generous gesture by Virgin Trains, those who were affected by the cancellations of the first four shows, and are eligible to travel on a Virgin Trains route, will be offered complimentary Standard Class travel.  Secret Cinema is proud to announce this partnership and would like to thank Virgin Trains for this fantastic contribution. All those who have been in touch with Secret Cinema will be contacted individually with further details.

Secret Cinema presents Back to the Future

Secret Cinema Presents Back to the Future runs from 31st July to 31st August. The numbers it has drawn have made it the largest outdoor event in London this summer.

Secret Cinema has built the town of Hill Valley in a secret London location, transporting audiences into a richly detailed imagined world. Audiences travel back in time and become citizens of Hill Valley living between 1955 and 1985 with secret alleys and entrances in the town that will allow them to travel to 1985 and 2015.
Tickets for the additional shows on August 25th and August 27th are available here:

Join Emily the Strange creator Rob Reger and his cast of Strangers for their annual panel experience and get the insider scoop on the all-ages Dark Horse comic book series Emily and the Strangers, including sneak peeks at new artwork and story lines from upcoming issues. Hear some snippets of new tracks from Emily and the Strangers and see behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the “Calling All Guitars” animated music video. As always, audience participation will be encouraged and perhaps enforced with plenty of rewards for being strange . . . Oh yeah, and some Q&A with updates on the feature film development. Be there or get lost!

12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Dark Horse Builds Characters: Tomorrow’s Comics Today
 Room 24ABC

Nearly thirty years ago, Dark Horse arrived with an agenda different from that of any other publisher in comics. The young company was founded on the belief that comics creators should have the option to retain the rights to their own work, and it continues to be a highly fertile breeding ground for new characters, concepts, and more! Now, the publisher is poised to make headlines again with some of the biggest news about new original work since Frank Miller brought Sin City to the pages of Dark Horse Presents! Join panelists for an exclusive look at upcoming and unannounced creator-owned work from some of the biggest names in and outside the industry! This will be the comics panel everyone will be talking about at this year’s show!

1:45 p.m.–3:45 p.m.
The Strain
 Hall H

Get a sneak peek at the third episode of FX’s brand-new series, The Strain. In episode 3, “Gone Smooth,” Eph and Nora fight to save Captain Redfern’s life before coming face to face with the horrifying effects of the virus. A spike in rat attacks signals Fet that something inexplicable is happening deep below the city. Released from jail, Setrakian begins his own merciless plan to stop the spread of the disease. Written by Chuck Hogan; directed by David Semel. After the screening, join series creators Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) and Chuck Hogan and show runner Carlton Cuse (Lost), along with the cast members Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mía Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Miguel Gomez, Ben Hyland, and Jack Kesy.

In the late 1970s and early ’80s, some of the most inventive and inspired alternative comics found a place on shelves. ElfQuest offered a unique vision of black and white fantasy, while Nexus gave readers a version of the superhero idea more rooted in science fiction than capes and cowls. Meanwhile, Groo the Wanderer took a humorous take on the sword and sorcery genre, popularized by the likes of Conan the Barbarian in the previous decade. Over 30 years later, we pay tribute to some of comics’ longest-running ongoing collaborations for a discussion with the creators themselves! Join Richard and Wendy Pini (ElfQuest), Mike Baron (Nexus), and Mark Evanier (Groo) as they share the secrets to the success of a few of comics’ most revered story lines!

Just a few of the many creators in this year’s line-up are the legendary Watchmen co-creator, artist Dave Gibbons, Sunday Times-featured artist Nick Abadzis, Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, Doctor Who artists Mark Buckingham and Mike Collins, 2014 Eisner award nominee creator Rob Davis, Marvel Comics artist Gary Erskine, top designer Rian Hughes, 2000AD and Batman artist Jock, leading independent artist Sean Phlllips, The Beano and VIZ artist Lew Stringer and many top independent comic creators, such as Luther Arkwright and Grandville creator Bryan Talbot and Vampire Academy artist Emma Vieceli.
(For further information on creator's works, visit the Festival's web site -
The Festival features more than 50 carefully-produced events with often unusual combinations of guests, unusual presentations and new formats. It includes films and live draws alongside workshops and master classes including a whole programme dedicated to children and teenagers. Themes and strands include Konichewa Japan, Vive la France!, Lost in Space, The Great War in Comics and Just for Laughs?
Plus, the Festival offers a huge, free, Comic Marketplace in Kendal’s Clock Tower, crammed with publisher stands, creators offering art and sketches – and, of course, there will be plenty of comics for sale. (Full details of the family zone and Comics Clock Tower plus full exhibitions programme and more will be released in May and June, but look out for creators such as Isabel Greenberg, writer Ian Edginton, Great Beast publisher Adam Cadwell among many others). There’ll also be a pop-up Forbidden Planet for the weekend.
With a firm eye on developing new comic talent there are also plenty of workshops for aspiring comic creators to sign up for.
“The first festival ran like a well-oiled machine, with many people stating that it seemed like a long-established event,” enthuses Festival guest and founding patron Bryan Talbot. “If you only go to one comic event this year, this is the one that's unmissable.”
“The organisers are building on last year's resounding success to make this year's festival outstanding,” added fellow patron Mary Talbot. “There's another stunning array of guests and exhibitions, events and competitions - so there's sure to be something for everyone. Like last year, only even better!”
"One of the most popular questions after our first festival in 2013 was how would we be able to match its breadth, scale and quality,” says Festival Director Julie Tait. “We hope this year's programme (with a few surprises still to come) will answer that question.
“We are delighted to have an increased number of international creators and to have broadened the genres too. Meanwhile we have listened to feedback and have extended the range of the family zone and have made the Comics Clocktower free to the public. And we can assure you that Kendal will be even more of a comic art town for the weekend"

Lakes Festival Celebrates 50 years of Doctor Who in Comics
Kendal, UK, 23rd April 2014: Grab your sonic screwdriver and set the time-space co-ordinates on your TARDIS' for Kendal, 17th October 2014!  The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is pleased to announce a number of events to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who in comics, the world's longest-running science fiction TV-inspired tie-in strip.
Doctor Who fans celebrated 50 years of the Doctor Who TV show last year, but some may not know that the first comic strip based on the show was published one year after the series launch, in TV Comic. Since then, Doctor Who has featured in numerous comic titles including Countdown, Doctor Who Magazine and Doctor Who Adventures in the UK. IDW were the first US publisher to produce a regular Doctor Who title, as well as several limited series – a license recently picked up by Britain’s very own Titan Comics, out from July onwards.
Lined up for this year’s Lakes Festival are Dez Skinn, the talented editor and publisher who brought Doctor Who Weekly to life back in 1979, the precursor to today’s Doctor Who Magazine. Dez will be on hand to talk about both the origins of the Weekly and his many other comic creations, including the acclaimed anthology comic, Warrior.
Marking 50 years of Doctor Who in comics, the festival will also deliver a special panel – Fifty Years of Doctor Who comics in 50 Minutes – featuring Doctor Who artists Mike Collins and Martin Geraghty and writers Scott Gray, Nick Abadzis and Robbie Morrison. Former Doctor Who Magazine editor John Freeman will host the panel.
Also at the Festival are a number of creators who’ve had their own dealings with the world’s favourite time traveller, including Dave Gibbons (who drew the first Doctor Who Weekly main strips), IDW Doctor Who artists Mark Buckingham and Gary Erskine and cartoonist Kev F Sutherland, who created several cartoons for DWM during John’s tenure.
These Doctor Who-connected guests are the latest addition to a guest list that includes a range of British and overseas creators including The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, 2000AD artist Jock, self-taught Japanese artist Junko Mzuno, digital comics frontiersman Scott McCloud, leading US comics writer Gail Simone, the creator of the multi-award winning Bone Jeff Smith, Dutch underground comics artist Joost Swarte and Emma Vieceli will also join many other comic creators for Kendal’s second comics extravaganza.
The full line up of guests is due to be announced this coming Friday – 25th April – when tickets go on sale. (For further information on announced guests so far, visit the Festival's web site).
The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (17th – 19th October 2014) is a new kind of comic art event in the UK. Modelled on a European-style festival it aims to take over the market town of Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District, with comic art presenting the widest range of genres. Events include a 24 Hour Comic Marathon, children’s comic workshops, talks, signings, Great War in Comics art exhibition and a Comics Fair.
