News / Disney confirms extra standalone Star Wars movies coming!

I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee says he’s going to take a look at the long-gestating Star Wars live-action TV series now that the Disney deal to acquire Lucasfilm is complete.

He says a sequel to Independence Day could begin filming within a year. We know, we know, they keep talking about Independence Day 2 and even when Will Smith says he’d do it, it doesn’t happen.

March 2012 has been a tragic month for science fictions fans. First we saw the passing of Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie, followed closely by the passing of French comic book and SF movie visionary Jean ‘Moebius‘ Giraud. And as if both were not painful enough, last week saw news that anime legend Noboru Ishiguro had also died at the age of 74.

In the NBC remake the family will be eating flesh and suicide victims. They have Eddie as a full blown werewolf. The show will be dark, but there will also be a comedic touch.
