...and blimey are we excited. I guess we say it every year, but we think this edition is the best we have ever had!
Picking out highlights is almost impossible, we have seven feature-film world premieres, three short-film world premieres, dozens of UK premiere screenings, comedy, live music, docs, competitions, a latex fashion show… you try picking something from that!
However, in time-honoured tradition, we shall endeavour to point out a few things in this and the next few newsletters. So first up:
MOVIES
TRUE LOVE: - WORLD PREMIERE – FRI 4 MAY, 8.45PM, BFI
From Fabio & Fabio (Fabio Guaglione, Fabio Resinaro), the makers of the amazing short Afterville, comes TRUE LOVE, directed by Enrico Clerico Nasino.
The movie tells the story of newly-weds Jack and Kate, who both wake up alone in sealed, doorless cells. On the walls, videos are projected revealing parts of each other’s lives. A small monitor asks them questions to which they must push a button to answer Yes or No. However, each answer has consequences and as more questions are asked, more secrets are revealed.
If you like your sci-fi tense, claustrophobic, dramatic and a little bit sinister, then this is for you.
We are delighted that the director and producers will be on-hand for a Q&A following the screening.
STRANGE FRAME: LOVE & SAX - WORLD PREMIERE – THU 3 MAY, 7.00PM, APOLLO
Set in the 29th century on Gannymede, one of Jupiter’s moons, Strange Frame: Love & Sax is in the unique genre of animated sci-fi lesbian rock musical. Employing a hybrid of cut out and CGI animation, the film presents vibrant and eccentric characters in stunning settings, with a soulful and rocking original score. Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll and revolution: everything you could want from a movie that definitely makes this animation no kids’ cartoon. It is like nothing you’ve ever seen or heard before.
With an awesome soundtrack by Grammy Award winner, Dave Pellicciaro and Shelley Doty, the movie also has a voice cast to die for including; George Takei, Claudia Black, Alan Tudyk and the legendary Tim Curry!
We are delighted that co-writer Shelley and GB Hajim (the movie's Director) will be on hand after the screening for a Q&A.
