TOM POLLOCK LAUNCHES ‘THE GLASS REPUBLIC’ FORBIDDEN PLANET LONDON FRIDAY 2nd AUGUST 6 – 7pm   2013

TOM POLLOCK will be launching THE GLASS REPUBLIC, sequel to the astonishing THE CITY’S SON (Jo Fletcher) at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Friday 2nd August from 6 – 7pm.

Pen’s life is all about secrets: the secret of the city’s spirits, deities and monsters her best friend Beth discovered, living just beyond the notice of modern Londoners; the secret of how she got the intricate scars that disfigure her so cruelly – and the most closely guarded secret of all: Parva, her mirror-sister, forged from her reflections in a school bathroom mirror. Pen’s reflected twin is the only girl who really understands her.

Then Parva is abducted and Pen makes a terrible bargain for the means to track her down. In London-Under-Glass, looks are currency, and Pen’s scars make her a rare and valuable commodity. But some in the reflected city will do anything to keep Pen from the secret of what happened to the sister who shared her face.

‘…nails that spot between utterly normal and blood-curdlingly weird perfectly’ Jon Courtenay Grimwood

Tom Pollock is a graduate of the Sussex University Creative Writing Programme, and a member of the London-based writers’ group The T-Party. He has lived everywhere from Scotland to Sumatra, but the peculiar magic of London has always drawn him back.

NEIL GAIMAN AT FORBIDDEN PLANET FORBIDDEN PLANET LONDON MONDAY 17th JUNE 1-2pm 2013

Forbidden Planet are delighted to welcome NEIL GAIMAN, signing THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore, 179 Shaftsbury Avenue, WC2H 8JR.

THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE is a fable that reshapes modern fantasy: moving, terrifying and elegiac - as pure as a dream, as delicate as a butterfly's wing, as dangerous as a knife in the dark.

It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed - within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only defence is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.

Neil Gaiman has spent his adult life making things up and writing them down. He lives more in America than he does anywhere else. He has written books and films and children's books and television. He has a blog over at www.neilgaiman.com. He's won more than his fair share of literary awards, was voted twenty-first equal on a recent poll of Great British Authors, and has no idea where he put his keys.

MITCH BENN AT FORBIDDEN PLANET  SATURDAY 20th JULY 2013

Forbidden Planet are delighted to welcome MITCH BENN signing TERRA at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore, 179 Shaftsbury Avenue, WC2H 8JR on Saturday 20th July from 1 – 2pm.

No-one trusts humanity. No-one can quite understand why we're intent on destroying the only place we have to live in the Universe. No-one thinks we're worth a second thought. And certainly no-one is about to let us get off Rrth. That would be a complete disaster.

But one alien thinks Rrth is worth looking at. Not humanity, obviously, we're appalling, but until we manage to kill every other living thing on the planet there are some truly wonderful places on Rrth and some wonderful creatures living in them. Best take a look while they're still there.

Mitch Benn found fame as the singer of spectacularly angry, clever and funny songs on the Now Show. He used to be a big, angry, clever and funny man. Now he is just angry, clever and funny. He tours regularly and is in pretty much permanent residence with his band at the Phoenix Theatre in Bloomsbury. He is married and has a young daughter. He also has over 20,000 followers on Twitter.

The Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature is given to the fantasy novel, multi-volume, or single-author story collection for adults published during 2012 that best exemplifies the spirit of the Inklings. Books are eligible for two years after publication if not selected as a finalist during the first year of eligibility. Books from a series are eligible if they stand on their own; otherwise, the series becomes eligible the year its final volume appears. The Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children’s Literature honors books for younger readers (from Young Adults to picture books for beginning readers), in the tradition of The Hobbit or The Chronicles of Narnia. Rules for eligibility are otherwise the same as for the Adult Literature award. The question of which award a borderline book is best suited for will be decided by consensus of the committees.

The Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Inklings Studies is given to books on Tolkien, Lewis, and/or Williams that make significant contributions to Inklings scholarship. For this award, books first published during the last three years (2010–2012) are eligible, including finalists for previous years. The Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Myth and Fantasy Studies is given to scholarly books on other specific authors in the Inklings tradition, or to more general works on the genres of myth and fantasy. The period of eligibility is three years, as for the Inklings Studies award.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced during Mythcon 44, to be held from July 12-15, 2013, in East Lansing, Michigan. A complete list of Mythopoeic Award winners is available on the Society web site: http://www.mythsoc.org/awards/

Forbidden Planet are delighted to welcome NALINI SINGH signing HEART OF OBSIDIAN at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore, 179 Shaftsbury Avenue, WC2H 8JR on Friday 14th June 6 – 7pm.

The day of reckoning is here.

Step into New York Times bestseller Nalini Singh’s explosive and shockingly passionate Psy-Changeling world. From the writer known as ‘the alpha author of paranormal romance’ (Booklist), Heart of Obsidian is the most highly anticipated novel of Nalini Singh’s career- a novel blurring the line between madness and genius, between subjugation and liberation, between the living and the dead. From the queen of paranormal romance comes a rich and delicious new adventure eagerly awaited by Nalini’s fans worldwide.

Nalini Singh is one of Gollancz’s bestselling dark fantasy authors. She was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. She spent three years living and working in Japan, and travelling around Asia before returning to New Zealand - although she's always plotting new trips. She has worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher, not necessarily in that order. Some people might call that inconsistency, but she calls it grist for the writer's mill.

Sam Stone’s Darkness Comes to Audio Go - November 2013

Alexandra Arlango, Commissioning Editor - Original Content at AudioGO Ltd in London, has acquired world rights to an original SciFi/Horror novella from award-winning author Sam Stone.

The novella, entitled The Darkness Within, is an exciting and pervasive story set on a spaceship in the far-distant future, and what happens when an alien infection takes hold …

Arlango says about the project: ‘How exciting! I am very pleased to be working with Sam Stone again. Last year AudioGO published her collection of short stories, Zombies In New York And Other Bloody Jottings, and since I came across her work I've been a great fan. Not only does she come up with deliciously sinister tales, but the worlds she creates are atmospheric and her characters memorable. They are perfect for audio.

‘I was thrilled to meet Sam earlier this year, and we started talking about other ideas and things that we could work on together. The result? The Darkness Within, an exclusive new novella commissioned by AudioGO. It might well be set in space. And it might well feature new, malevolent life-forms … You'll have to find out more for yourself. What I can tell you is that I had to stop reading, and look away from the page several times because it was so creepy. This Halloween, things will definitely go bump in the dark!’

AudioGO is the home of BBC Audiobooks and manages all the Doctor Who audio releases among their 10,000 catalogue items. Their clients include books by P D James, J K Rowling, Ruth Rendell and Bernard Cornwall. Their horror catalogue includes work by Bram Stoker, Rachel Caine, M R James, Stephanie Meyer, James Herbert and Fangoria's Dreadtime Stories. For more information, visit www.audiogo.com/uk/.

Sam Stone’s first novel, Killing Kiss, won the silver award for Best Horror Novel in ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year competition, and her subsequent novels and short stories have gained her much acclaim, including winning the British Fantasy Award. Recent works include the novella Zombies at Tiffany’s and the vampire novel Silent Sand, and Killing Kiss was recently sold to Germany. She holds an MA in Creative Writing and is a noted public speaker and lecturer. Sam’s website is at www.sam-stone.com.
