So how would you describe the atypical SF fan?
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:53:24 PM »
Hello everyone

I was tempted to do this as a poll but as I'm also supposed to be encouraging you folk to write, let's see what you think first before I segregate into some sort of divisions.

To my mind I don't think there is an atypical SF fan. Like in other media, we have extremes right down to commonplace. So let's take a different tactic. Can you pick out an SF fan from a crowd, assuming they aren't wearing a Trek, SG-1, etc uniform and if so what gives us away??

Don't be afraid to write.

Geoff

Does anyone ever wear beanie hats with propellers on them any more??

I've only ever seen a photo once from one of the early American SF Conventions but I think it done as a send up by one of the pro-writers.

Call me curious but I had a look on Google and you can actually buy the blessed thing. The question is would you as a 'serious' SF fan really want to wear one or just let the wannabees who think only nerds would wear one cos we have our heads in the clouds??
