Sarah Jane Adventures Season 4

The Sky – part 1

As with the other TV series, spoilers will be kept to a minimum and if you’re not sure, watch before reading on. Be warned, I will be cryptic when it comes to synopsis detail.

The ‘Sarah Jane Adventures’ is back with an exciting bang. For a finale to Lis Sladen’s career then based on the opening episode it’s going to remind everyone how much she is going to be missed. In the meantime, just enjoy.

Sarah Jane has a rock-a-bye-TK-baby on her doorstep and Clyde is a natural babysitter. Evading robot aliens and upset moms must be second nature by now. He has Miles to travel before he sleeps. Leaves are also cool.

The Sky – part 2

OK, hands up all those who missed the second part because they didn’t realise that it was shown on the Tuesday?? Me, too. Luckily, it should be repeated over the weekend or on BBC1 in the near future.

The Curse Of C*yde L**ger – part 1

Don’t say the name C*yd* L**ger or even look at it without the asterisks or you, too, will want to do him serious damage and then he will have no one to turn to. One can only hope actor Daniel Anthony is in hiding for the next couple days.

Cut by a woodchip from an ancient totem and instead of raining fish, did that already, C*yd* L**ger finds everyone turns against him who knows his name. Well, at least it’s not on the national news, then he would really be in trouble. Even so, all his friends are against him and that include Sarah Jane and, under orders, Mr. Smith as well.

An interesting twist and a sharp reminder of what it’s like to be truly alone. Enough to make you paranoid, especially as the totem isn’t an alien artefact.

Sarah Jane seems to be developing a habit of becoming a home for alien children.

Odd thing to ponder on. Are ties that you grow out of customary school uniform?

The Curse Of C*yde L**ger – part 2

It’ll be interesting to see the overall reaction to how we British deal with the homeless over here from this episode. There are still active programmes over here to get them safely off the streets in the cities and there is a reminder not to give too much money or some won’t seek refuge. Whether this is true across the world only you can decide. Whatever, after seeing this episode, never consider them as invisible and buy a copy of The Big Issue. Actress Lily Loveless did a beautiful performance as Ellie.

In many respects this episode’s resolution is actually very simple. It’s getting the Sarah Jane and Rani to say C*yde L**ger’s name and withstanding the pain to break the spell. After that, everything is easy. Mind you, without Sky being there it might never have happened. The totem is probably the nearest thing to magic on this series.

Not quite a happy ending and there are some things that even Mr. Smith can’t resolve. Mind you, if the world goes up in smoke, there won’t even be a planet for anyone.

Don’t get too friendly and touch any ancient totems. Can I say Clyde Langer now without having some pain?

The Man Who Never Was – part 1

Serf Industries has what appears to the most friendly laptop if you believe the hype from its screamy-clean boss, Mr. Serf. However, Sarah Jane’s fractal a rat and it’s up to the ace reporter to prove it true.

Luke is back and he and Sky’s uniqueness is used well within this plot.

The final adventure of Sarah Jane is at least going to be memorable. Even knowing where it is going to lead – too much preview, folks – looks like it’s going to give everyone a chance to shine. Well, except for Mr. Smith and he already shines.

The Man Who Never Was – part 2

Things weren’t quite what they were shown with the last episode.

An existing black market in trading aliens would probably explain why there are so many extra-terrestrials on Earth in Torchwood. The Scullions are cute in an optical way even if there is a vague resemblance to a certain life-form on Tatooine with their dress sense.

Beware of any computer technology that sounds too good to be true let alone too perfect. You would have thought that rather than try to sell a computer system that doesn’t really work that the person behind Serf couldn’t have made a bundle from the real hologram technology that they had.

Note to Clyde and Rani, if you’re going to be reporters, not to forget their pens.

A nice final story to the series with all the hints for the future left up in the air…or at least for possible novels.

I defy anyone not to have a damp eye at the end. You’re sorely missed, Lis Sladen.
