Scifi movies that got it right
« on: March 22, 2010, 04:05:37 AM »
Can anyone think of any old science fiction movies where the predictions made actually came true?

Some of the ones based on HG Wells' novels come close, but a lot were way out...

I would look to Jules Verne novels rather than HG.

After all, we haven't been invaded by talking squids - from Mars, he he - yet.

Submarines, those we have got...

By far the one that first comes to mind would be "Slaughterhouse 5"

So many people today are catching up to the whole theme of time and space as well.  We could be on the brink of "A Boy and His Dog" mind you!   :o ;) Let's hope otherwise.

If you've not seen, then they are both 'must-sees'

The Truman Show. Who'd have thought we'd be happy to watch people sleep on TV? And I reckon we're not far away from a situation like that posed in Andrew Nicol's S1M0NE. Avatar has shown that we're close to the idea of the virtual actor becoming a reality.

And of course, films like Destination Moon got it spot on, even if Armstrong and co. didn't make moonfall in a shiny silver dart. Which is a shame, really...  ;D

Hello everyone

For the normal problems of space flight, sans an AI running a spaceship, '2001: A Space Odyssey' is still hard to beat. The same could probably be said for '2010'.

Hello everyone

You do realise that until we have a moon colony that we are unlikely to find a buried monolith on the Moon??
