This doesn't mean you can't have a pen name or have the ability to change it although anyone looking you up would be able to see a history of anyone being fickle.

Aww.... the answers arent enough!

There are some forums and such that one likes to participate in, but you really don't want everyone to know your name. I'm in internet security, I've seen a LOT of horrid things. The Internet isn't really a very safe place....

We like to have a safe forum where people can be normal and not think they have to hide their identities.

I've been on the Set some dozen or so years now using my own name with few if any problems. It also appears my name is one of a kind these days.

Here may be safe. Hell, I'm using my own name here. I typically only use two other "screen names", too. But other places? There's plenty of other places it is NOT safe using your own name.

Hello JL

It would be nice to see a development made with the Net where everyone had a single identity. It would at least avoid fraud and track people down easier if they abuse the system.

I am unfortunately jaded and overeducated in this area... I work in internet security. People get away with some seriously messed up things.

Hello JL

There are a lot of advantages of having one identity or at least proof of same. It would prevent people posing as other people for one.

It sounds good in theory but I don't think it would ever work. And seeing there will be multiple people with the same name we would all end up having numbers and I for one have refused to put any type of number into any identity I've had on the net. I'm a man, not a number...

Hello Scott

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you here.

There are people with similar names already littered around the Net, most of them add a number or something to differentiate themselves from each other.

To be effective, I think it probably needs more than a name association. A defining photo and a couple other things to prove that you're talking/writing to the same person each time. Not all of it would be on show but electronic checks wouldn't be difficult to program in.
