I read The Adamantine Palace by writer Stephen Deas last week.

Does anyone know of any similar books I might enjoy?

Check out anything by Robin Hobb. Same Viciousness and with pretty cool unstereotypical dragons.

Actually, don't check out the Soldier Son trilogy, it had no dragons and was almost entirely about a kid getting fat and how that ruins his life...
