Jackelian art wanted

Ingram Blakelock, who is a fan of Stephen Hunt's Jackelian series of fantasy books as well as a 3D artist, says, "I have to say that every book makes me sit back every few pages and want to put some of the written concepts down into pieces of concept artwork. For example, I've always wondered what a Gas Spike might look like or how a catamaran submarine might work."

He has now set up a fan club on the very popular Deviant Art portal and would like to find any artwork out there that has been inspired by Stephen Hunt's books.

If you are an artist who has done some work set in, or inspired by, the Jackelian series of fantasy novels (Book 1: The Court of the Air, Book 2: The Kingdom Beyond the Waves, Book 3: The Rise of the Iron Moon, Book 4: Secrets of the Fire Sea), then Ingram would like to hear from you.

The fan art site is http://lions-of-jackals.deviantart.com/ while Ingram's personal work is over at http://garsondee.deviantart.com/

Wow! Thanks for the positive response! I've been working on a sketch of the island of Jago for my next bit of concept art. I'll let you know when it's posted up.  ;D

Lots of updates to the page - I'm currently working on producing the logo item. Which will be an airship flying through the air whilst being attacked.

This is the group image for the Lions of Jackals - looks better on the deviant art page....

This isn't exactly what I had in mind for the airships in your books, it's very simplified to make it work as a graphic. Only took a couple of hours to create and I'm really happy with the result - would be even clearer except that it had to shrink down to 30kb.

Steam Knight WIP (Work in Progress) uploaded! Obviously needs a lot of work but it's a start.

I like the steamman knight - the defender of Tock House, I presume.

One of the great things about the steammen is that they all tend to be unique, although the military types do tend towards having centaur-like forms.

Love the art, very nice. Wish I was as talented with 3D software - or any other form of illustration for that matter.

What I would love to see is one of those big battle scenes that always seem to appear at the end of a Stephen Hunt novel!

I always wanted to see some artwork from the Jackelian universe - glad to see some graphic illustrator types are stepping up to the fan plate!

Might we have a map at some point please?

You've got a lot of countries spread across the 4 books now, and it would help a lot, please.

I would like to see some people sketches, especially the commodore.

I suppose this is where 3d rendering software tends to make everyone look the same though?

I think it rather depends on the skill of the illustrator, as to whether you are going to get an original face out of a 3D package or not.

Most of them ship with factory resets - Poser jumps to mind - that does tend to enourage unoriginal fantasy designs!

I'm still working on the steam knight side view... hard doesn't even begin to describe the process but I've already got the basics worked out. In terms of proportions it'll look more like a stumpy bull than a horse.

I always imagined a steamman knight as a little stumpy and bull-like (and dangerous, yes, very very dangerous)!!!
