Just one starship

If you had to escape the Earth, and had just one starship to choose from the world of TV and film, which one would it be and why?

It as to be the TARDIS - that frees you to travel through Space and Time.

Try setting a space battle up between the Death Star and the TARDIS and you'll see what I mean!

The TARDIS will win every time.

The Millennium Falcon of course...because it made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.

I'd pick a Culture ship, but I can't choose just one.

Hello Wibbley.

It depends how far from the Earth do you want to go?? Just off-Earth or to another planet. With the latter, cos of the time differential and wanting to get there in your own life-time then you would need a time machine or access to jumpgates.

If you couldn't cheat and use only Earth technology, even from the future, you would be limited.

I'm going to be awkward and choose fiction rather than film or TV which shows none of the problems with sewage and boredom,

If you wanted room to wander in transit, then I would choose one of those mile long spaceships that Cordwainer Smith had in his  Instrumentality stories or the equally long spaceships using distorter technology in Van Vogt's stories which also has the means to get you off-ship quickly in an emergency.

I would like to travel in a Viper from Battlestar Galactica.

Just because they are cool and I have always wanted to fly something fast!

Hello everyone

Has anyone compared the relative normal space speeds of some of these spacecraft??

The smaller ones must have a limited range for greater acceleration but I wonder how they compensate for the g-force and how you'd end up in a puddle.

As long as you have hyperspace drive, that's the important thing.

Who would want to be stranded in a single system?

In that case, have a Starfury although I don't think it would be that comfortable to stand in for so long.

You have to think about comfort as well as speed.

"Starship Utopia" by Cyne sampled Mike Finnigan's "Just One Minute More". Listen to both songs on WhoSampled, the ultimate database of sampled music, ...

I know this is a dormant topic but it would just have to be the USS Voyeger. All the home comforts, a holo deck and a canteen. There's 7of9 other reasons to  :P
