Top time travel novels
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:15:36 AM »
Hi all - was pondering what the top five time travel books of all time would be.

List so far is...

1.) The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

2.) Timescape by Greg Benford

3.) Up the Line by Robert Silverberg

4.) Time And Again by Jack Finney

5.) The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

How about yours?

Hello Tidler

Do you mean time travel stories themselves or what they do when they get there??

There's a lot to choose from.

Surely The Technicolor Time Machine by Harry Harrison must deserve a mention somewhere in such a list!

I just read The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers which I thought was really good. A tale of time travel back to the 19th Century with pleasing resolution of all loose ends (or if not then it wasn't enough for me to notice).

I'd recommend it.

Hello Vinx

I read The Anubis Gates back in the 90s. He got his London reasonably accurate. I loved the way isolated travellers walked the streets whistling a Beatles tune and having to avoid the street as a latrine.

Hello everyone

What about Millenniumn by John Varley. Not to be confused with the Chris Carter series and the film version other than the clunky robot isn't too far from the novel.

You'd never fear a plane crash again.
