It seems to me as if the Jackelian novels have grown a little darker, over time.

Is that to you an accurate statement of how the books have evolved?

Oh, I don't know.

I always try to leven the books with a little humour, but maybe I'm just naturally dark or something?

You must be. I was about three-quarters into Rise of the Iron Moon when I was struck by a realization: "Sweet Eru, this guy has a higher body count than your average season of Doctor Who!"See the TV Tropes page 'Everybody Lives'.

Now, fair's fair, yes, you do leaven it with humor, quite well in fact, but there's only so much a laugh can alleviate when the mausoleums are standing-room only...

Compared to Arthur C Clarke or a Terry Pratchett novel my body counts might be high, Emperor Bill, but what about a Conan or a Sharpe novel?

I guess it depends where you set the base-line.

And don't even get me started on a Joe Abercrombie book!

*glance back at my bookcase, literally cracking under the weight of the Pratchett books on the top shelf*

*glance at the Discworld book which is even now lying open on my bed*
...
*cough*
Fair enough.

Maybe that's a new market for me to write for?

Comedy fantasy novels with huge amounts of blood and guts?

Not sure how I'd pull if off though...
