Question about writing
« on: March 11, 2010, 05:29:29 AM »
Hi Stephen.

You've written fantasy and science fiction from the start of your career... what was the initial attraction of these genres over any of other ones you could have written in?

You'd have to blame my father for that one, granny.

He's a big time SFF fan from before world war II... he grew up collecting the scifi pulps that used to come over to the UK as ballast at the bottom of the US victory ships.

By the time I came along, the house was packed to the rafters with every fantasy and science fiction book in existence at the time.

With a childhood like that I didn't stand a chance... it was speculative fiction all the way!
