OK, folks, let's see if you people can write as well as you can read.

How do you spot the real SF fan? Do you drop a line and see if they correct you. Can they tell the difference between Sci-Fi and SF?  Is it their choice of authors, films or TV programmes.

I'm not going to do all the suggestions for you, just one to get you started.

A real SF fan would not confuse Frankestein with his monster.

 Indulge me. What do you use??

A true SF fan would know that our star system is called a Solar System because the name of our sun is Sol.

Any other generic star system is just that, a star system.

Ray Bradbury is a fantasy writer NOT a Science Fiction writer - and even he says that.

Anne McCaffrey's Pern books are Science Fiction not fantasy.

I think it takes a few books before that becomes clear though. I love this series, it's one of the sets of books on my mother's impressive science fiction shelf and I started reading them probably early in my teens. It's sometimes hard to convince people it's science fiction and not fantasy!

Re: Pern. Anne McCaffrey applied SF rules ie stayed within restrictions of what she created. The main thing she envised was how to have dragons on a colony planet where all advances were wiped away. As such, the colonisers went back to a feudal system. Without the dragons, the stories would just mirror that instead.

Which book before 'Dragonsdawn' convinced you it was SF and not fantasy??

Having watched the 1966 film 'Fantastic Voyage', a true SF fan will realise that the patient with die in post-op by a protusion of Proteus debris.

Now here's something to ponder. Look at the film 'Westworld'. The Gunslinger's pistol has ammo that can only inflict damage on other robots.

No matter what software malfunction that makes them homocidal, how would this affect that ammo??

Would we have gotten this wrong today or showed what happened??

I'll give a clue, one was made in Australia and the other in the USA.
